Terms of Service

Last updated: July 27, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using ImagePilot, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our services.

2. Description of Service

ImagePilot provides free, browser-based image tools: compression, resizing, cropping, merging, format conversion, image-to-PDF conversion, HEIC conversion (to JPG, PNG, WebP, or PDF), and AI background removal. All image processing occurs locally in your browser — using HTML5 Canvas and WebAssembly components that run on your own device — and we do not upload or store your images on any server. Features may be added, changed, or removed over time.

3. AI Background Removal

Background removal uses an automated AI model. Its results are best-effort and vary with the photo: fine detail such as hair, blurred edges, and low-contrast backgrounds may not be separated cleanly. The background colour presets (white, blue, red) are provided as convenient starting points.

We do not warrant that any output meets the requirements of any passport, visa, government, examination, or other official application. Photo rules — including exact background shade, dimensions, file size, and composition — are set by the relevant authority, change over time, and differ between countries and agencies. You are responsible for checking the current official requirements for your specific application before submitting any image produced with our tools. The same applies to platform specifications (social networks, messaging apps, marketplaces) referenced anywhere on this site: we verify them against official documentation and state when they were checked, but they can change without notice.

4. Device Resources and Data Usage

Because processing happens on your device, our tools use your device's processor, memory, and storage. The AI background remover additionally downloads a model of roughly 42–84 MB the first time you use it, and stores it in your browser for later visits. You are shown the size and asked to confirm before that download starts. Any mobile-data charges or storage consumption resulting from use of the service are your responsibility. To protect device memory, some tools reduce very large images before processing and tell you when they have done so.

5. User Responsibilities

  • You must not use the service for any unlawful purpose
  • You are responsible for the content you process using our tools, including holding the necessary rights to it
  • You must not attempt to interfere with or disrupt the service
  • You are responsible for keeping your own copies of any files you value; we hold no copy of anything you process

6. Intellectual Property

The ImagePilot name, site design, written content, and original code are owned by us and protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. This does not extend to the third-party open-source components described in section 7, which remain the property of their respective authors and are governed by their own licences. You keep all rights to the images you process — we claim no ownership of them and never receive them.

7. Open-Source Components

Our tools are built on open-source software that runs in your browser, including: libheif (LGPL-3.0) for HEIC decoding; the IMG.LY background removal library and its AI model (AGPL-3.0) for background removal; jSquash codecs (Apache-2.0) for WebP and AVIF encoding; and jsPDF, fflate, and browser-image-compression (MIT). Each remains subject to its own licence and copyright notice, and nothing in these Terms limits any rights those licences grant you.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

ImagePilot is provided “as is” and “as available” without any warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, that processing will succeed on every file or device, or that any output will be fit for a particular purpose. Browser support, available memory, and hardware acceleration differ between devices and affect what the tools can do.

9. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall ImagePilot be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages resulting from your use of or inability to use the service — including, without limitation, loss of image data, a rejected application or submission, or any cost arising from reliance on an output that did not meet a third party's requirements.

10. Modifications

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be effective immediately upon posting. Continued use of the service after modifications constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
