Tip: after the first run the AI model stays in your browser, so the next photo starts immediately — no download, no internet needed.
AI that runs on your device, not on our server
Every other free background remover works the same way: you upload your photo, their server processes it, and you trust them about what happens next. ImagePilot inverts that. The AI model is downloaded to your browser once, and from then on every photo is processed on your own device — nothing is uploaded, so there is no server copy to trust anyone with.
That trade is worth being upfront about: the first run downloads a 42 MB model (84 MB if you choose the high-quality one), which is slower to start than a server-side tool. After that it is stored in your browser, and later photos start immediately — even with no internet connection at all.
For ID and passport photos, the background colour presets matter as much as the cut-out itself. Many application systems — Indonesian government portals, visa applications, and student ID systems across Asia — require a plain red, blue, or white background. Removing the background and filling it with a solid colour takes two clicks here, and switching between colours never re-runs the model.
How to remove a background from a photo
- 1
Drop a photo
Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP image. It is processed on your device and never uploaded.
- 2
Download the AI model once
On the first run the browser downloads the AI model. It is stored afterwards, so later photos start immediately.
- 3
Pick a background
Keep it transparent, or switch to white, blue, or red for ID and passport photos. Switching colours is instant.
- 4
Download the PNG
Save the result as a PNG with transparency or your chosen background colour.
Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The AI runs inside your browser on your own device, so the photo is never uploaded, stored, or logged. The only thing downloaded is the AI model itself, which travels to you — your image never travels anywhere.
Why does it download 42 MB the first time?
Because the AI runs on your device rather than on a server, the model has to be on your device. It downloads once, then stays in your browser — later photos start instantly and work even offline.
Can I make a red or blue background for an ID photo?
Yes. After the background is removed, pick white, blue, or red with one click and download the result as a PNG. Many government and visa applications require a specific plain background colour — check your own application's rules for the exact shade.
Why is my result missing strands of hair?
Fine hair is the hardest part for any background-removal model. Use a photo where the subject contrasts with the background, avoid busy backdrops, and try the high-quality model, which handles edges noticeably better than the fast one.
