A capture of one browser tab also captures the other tab titles, the bookmarks bar, the notification that arrived mid-capture, the file paths in a sidebar, and whatever is sitting in the taskbar. Frame just the subject
Use free-form mode and pull the frame in to the part that actually matters. Cut the window chrome, the taskbar or dock, the bookmarks bar and any adjacent panels — everything that is context for you and clutter for the reader.

Check the edges before you crop
Look along each border for a stray tab title, a filename, an email address or a notification. The edges are where accidental information lives, because that is the part you were not looking at when you pressed the shortcut.

The pixels you keep are unchanged. Export as PNG to keep the text crisp, which is almost always the right choice for a screenshot.
Pro tip: Keep screenshots as PNG rather than converting them to JPG. Screenshots are dominated by flat colour, sharp edges and small text — exactly the content JPG compression handles worst, producing a halo of artefacts around every letter that no amount of quality adjustment fully removes. PNG is lossless and usually smaller for this kind of image anyway. Convert to JPG only when something imposes a format, and use Convert PNG to JPG when it does.
Troubleshooting: If your capture never became a file, that is expected on Windows when you use Print Screen: Microsoft documents it as placing the image in your clipboard, not saving one.
